Description

This painting is my kiriban award to :iconancatdubh:, winner of the traditional/digital drawing/painting category of Northangel's wonderful Snapely contest [link]

Her request was to paint her something similar to the one I have painted to Hannah-dora - but with Severus Snape. [link]

I hope you like your kiriban, my friend

I am sure none of those who joined the Dark Lord with their one-way-ticket and were mesmerized by the dark arts knew what they had chosen. Neither Severus was aware what the darkest of evil meant, how negative, violent and deadly that land was.

In full view you can see he doesn't even notice the Dark Lord is taking his soul, like he took his sweeter and scarf, the threads are already hanging on the trees, the buttons are taken just his dreams were. Voldemort wanted his naked soul, his fears, his hopes and his last smile.

I really love the concept behind this, and I completely agree with your views. We see many examples of people, such as Snape and Draco and Regulus Black, where they don't realize the full scope and depth of evil until they become Death Eaters - and once they have this realization, there is no going back. Sometimes I get frustrated with the HP fandom, in general, because there tends to be this assumption that Snape was a happy-go-lucky Death Eater - that is, until Lily's life was threatened. I think Snape's experience as a Death Eater was more complex than this, and your artwork -this piece, in particular - symbolically captures what I envision in my own mind. Awesome work!
